Soya is one of the most nutritionally complete foods. For this reason, it has become a highly important crop in rural areas of the provinces of Huambo and Bié, Angola, characterized by high levels of food insecurity.

At CODESPA we are working to improve soya production, distribution, and marketing in six farming cooperatives with over one thousand members. This project aims to improve food security and to increase small farmer’s income.

For this purpose, we have installed demonstrative field schools, offering training to small farmers to improve soya production. We have also launched a soya seed multiplication program, based on the creation of micro-enterprises allowing the expansion and distribution of quality seeds among the different communities.

On the other hand, we support the development and access to grain storage facilities by the cooperatives. Thanks to the improved production and distribution, cooperatives have greater soya selling capacity and we can perform activities that assist the farmers in achieving fair prices when selling their crops.

Thanks to the project 1,200 small family farms will achieve food security producing, selling, and consuming soya. Increased income deriving from better production will also allow wider nutrition diversification and better living conditions.
